                                                       PLANS FOR 2017









The Parish Pastoral Plan, which is based on the Diocesan Pastoral Plan, considers the work of the Parish in a number of key areas which are shown below. A rolling Annual Plan is developed for each of these key areas.  The areas of the Annual Plan which had been agreed by the end of January 2017 are outlined below and comprise new initiatives or further developments and are not intended as a comprehensive record of all that will go on in the Parish over the coming year.


COMMUNICATION


This area of the Pastoral Plan considers our need to communicate effectively both with our own parishioners and with the wider world.


·         We will continue the development of the Parish Website as an aid to effective communication.


·         The Parish Newsletter will continue to be published 3 times each year in Autumn, Advent and Lent. The Newsletter will be delivered to 650Catholic homes within the parish.


·         Established links with local media, including newspapers circulating in Braunstone Town, Braunstone, Thorpe Astley, Kirby Muxloe and Leicester Forest East, will be further developed. Articles or details of coming events will continue to be sent to LIFE, Braunstone Alert and Braunstone Life for their Spring, Summer and Winter Editions.


·         Articles will be submitted regularly to the Diocesan Newspaper and to other magazines and newspapers and, where appropriate, will include any published    on – line.


·         A Welcomers Rota will be developed for the 10.00 am Mass on Sundays.


·         A display of photographs, newspaper articles and memories will be mounted in the church porch to mark the 60th Anniversary of the opening of the church and the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the parish.


PLANNING AND STRUCTURES


This area of the Plan deals with the maintenance of the physical structure of the church, hall and grounds, also with the management of the Parish.


·         The Annual General Meeting of the Parish will take place in June.


·         The introduction of Welcome Cards and the twice yearly Census Cards will allow the Parish Data-Base to be continuously updated.


·         Gutters will be cleared and adjacent area repaired and re-painted.


·         The possibility of purchasing a new cooker for the Hall will be investigated. The cost and practicability of re-furbishing the existing cooker will be investigated as an alternative.


EDUCATION AND FORMATION


This area deals with the more structured aspects of the formation of both adults and children, also with initiatives intended to refresh or deepen the Faith of parishioners.


·         Outreach with local schools will continue and will be further developed.


·         Twenty-five children will be prepared for their First Holy Communion on 18th June


·         Six adults are currently under instruction.


·         Fifteen children will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Patrick on Monday 5th June.


·         The Justice and Peace Group will continue to raise awareness of justice and peace issues and provide opportunities for reflection and/or action. These will be linked to areas of focus for the Diocese such as Human Trafficking and Catholic Social Teaching; also responses to areas of concern such as local support for vulnerable groups. There will also be links to relevant themes such as Prisoner Sunday, Peace Sunday or World Water Day (Justice and Peace contact: Theresa Alessandro blessedsacramentjp@gmail.com).


·         We will continue to work with the Travelling Community by offering support in the preparation of children and adults for their reception of the Sacraments. We will also continue to support Diocesan initiatives within the community and, in particular, the work of Sister Bernadette Healey who has been appointed to undertake the Diocesan Ministry to the Travelling Community. SPIRITUALITY


This section of the Plan concerns opportunities for the development of individual spirituality.


·         The Charismatic Prayer Group will continue to meet.


·         Stations of the Cross will be arranged throughout Lent on Friday evenings at 7.00 pm.


·         Themed Holy Hours will be held at 7.00 pm on each Thursday during Lent


·         A Parish Pilgrimage to the West of Ireland will take place in May.


·         On six Saturdays of Lent: 4th March to 8th April, we will walk approximately two miles round Braunstone Park reciting the Rosary for Peace. The walk will start at the Grotto at 10.00 am.



EVANGELISATION AND MISSION


This area is concerned with our missionary work, both within the immediate area of the Parish and more widely, also our ecumenical work with other Christian Churches.


·         We will continue to play a significant role in ecumenical initiatives including Braunstone Faiths Forum, South West Leicester Council of Churches, and Churches Together in Kirby Muxloe and Leicester Forest East.


·         Funds generated by the Friday Drop-In will continue to be allocated to supporting needs both locally and in the Developing World.


·         An appeal will be launched over the Christmas period to support a chosen charity.


·         All parishioners will be encouraged to support initiatives led by the Justice and Peace Group. These will include support for the Red Cross in Leicester where           £ 1,000 has been pledged for each year of a five year period to support their work with refugees and asylum seekers, also continued support for Braunstone Foodshare.


LITURGY AND WORSHIP


This area of the Plan is concerned with ensuring that our liturgies are meaningful, relevant and take account of the changing needs of parishioners.


·         A Mass of Celebration will be held on Sunday 11th June as a contribution to the Anniversary Celebrations and will be followed by refreshments on the lawn.


·         A Children’s Mass will continue to be celebrated at 10.00 am on the fourth Sunday of each month.


·         The African community will continue to lead the singing at Mass on the first Sunday of each month.


·         The Filipino community will continue to lead the singing at Mass on the first Saturday of each month.


·         An African Mass will continue to be celebrated at 12 noon on the third Sunday of each month.


·         The Liturgy Group will continue to plan meaningful worship (Liturgy Group contact: Susan Moore).


·         Special Masses will continue to be celebrated in order to mark significant national events or feasts which are important to our Parish community including the Feast of Santo Nino and of Blessed Cyprian Tansi.


·         The Bishop’s Mass for the Travelling Community will not be held this year but will be held at Blessed Sacrament in 2018. 


·         The Year of Grace, a parish initiative intended as a follow-up to Year of Mercy, will be highlighted in the Bulletin and a Cross of Grace will be displayed in the Church.


·         The Mass on Pentecost Sunday will include a healing grace.


·         The Centenary of the apparitions at Fatima will be celebrated this year and special devotions will be arranged at 7.00 pm on the 13th of each month from May to October.


·         Replacement hymn books are being sought.


FINANCE


This area of the Plan ensures the appropriate management and oversight of the financial resources of the Parish (Parish Treasurer Kevin Meehan).


·         We will continue to promote the envelope scheme and the Gift-Aid Scheme by a presentation at all Masses early in Advent.


·         We will continue to promote the 200 Club and explore the possibility of a joint scheme with the parishes of St. Peters and Mother of God.


·         The four-year appeal on behalf of the Sick and Retired Priest’s Fund comes to an end in June this year. During the first half of the year we will consider ways in which we may be able to achieve the target of £ 74,000 which has been assessed as an appropriate contribution from the parish. 


HEALTH AND SAFETY


This area is concerned with ensuring that the Parish meets all legal obligations and also the best practice guidelines defined by the Diocese (Health & Safety contact: Patrick Cusack).


·         An updated Risk Assessment will be completed and sent to the Diocese in May and will include details of remedial action taken following last year’s Assessment


·         A further Fire Risk Assessment will be completed by the beginning of May.


·         Arrangements will be made with outside contractors to carry out periodic testing of lighting, fire-safety, lightning protection, boiler, portable electric appliance, electrical supply and other essential tests or inspections.


·         The Parish Safeguarding Policy will be reviewed at the September meeting of the Parish Team (Parish Safeguarding Officer: Jim Etchingham).


SOCIAL ACTIVITIES


The purpose of this area of the Plan is to encourage parishioners, including those who are frail or lonely, to meet socially.


·         A fish and chip lunch will be organised for older parishioners in February.


·         The Parish Bazaar will be held on the last Saturday in November.


·         A series of other social events is being planned.
